Hammerhead EP

Purchased this for the Solace tracks, but GDFU are a good find, too. GDFU's standout track is More Than Enough for its frenzied garage thrash-out which has an immediacy and honesty to it. As for the Solace tracks, Hammerhead is pretty awful, especially the riff and the vocals, whereas the excellent Cement Stitches gets things back on track with some thrashy hardcore aggression, while finishing track Rumble is a tedious trudge to be honest. Selective listening required.

Forgive me, Lucifer, for I have sinned. I had lost faith in Solace, not feeling any connection to the critically acclaimed AD, but with The Brink, Solace have grabbed me by the balls again! Gone are Jason’s outbursts of rage, there is now a catchy rhythm to the vocal delivery from new singer Justin Goins. I like the presence of the organ, it works well. Waste People rips your head off. Personally, I would edit out Dead Sailor’s Dream, and put Shallows Fade and The Brink at the start of the LP.
